Tim Berners-Lee

He didn’t invent the web—he bolted three existing technologies together to fix a paperwork crisis at CERN.

Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web by integrating hypertext, TCP, and DNS into a working HTTP-based system. He built the first browser (which edited), server, and website. He launched it publicly via Usenet on 6 August 1991. His March 1989 proposal solved CERN’s internal information-sharing problem. It established open, decentralised publishing—but did not solve governance, scale, or trust.
